i really have a few things i want to share, but unfortunately it's four in the morning and i've got class in five hours! yikes. 

i was able to catch a play on campus this friday (little shop of horrors!) and it inspired this little number:

man, i'm loving the slew of scary movies and shows that air for october...even if some of them are ridiculously silly. 

did anyone else catch the season 2 premiere of Walking Dead? 

it was sick! and left on a cliffhanger, those butt wipes. 

alright, well, in class we're going over impressionism and expressionism and we had to do an impressionistic piece outside on thursday.  it was a lot of fun being outside...with the sweltering heat we've got down here.  but in all seriousness, it was a change of pace and i genuinely enjoyed it.

mass effect

my sketchbook is collecting dust! 

it's a damn shame...and one i plan on correcting. 

so, i've found new inspiration in the awesomeness that is Mass Effect 1 & 2.  :]

I have never been able to replay a game as much as Mass Effect 2 and I am thoroughly excited for the newest installment coming out in March! 

with all this newfound inspiration and my procrastinating schoolwork, i've got a couple of sketches to post up (woo!).

i'm seriously considering taking my camera to class and posting up some of my schoolwork, though it's mostly statically boring still lifes (is it lives if i'm trying to make 'still life' plural?...kind of like is it computer mouses or computer mice....).

i have three art studio classes and i just did my first homework assignment. (that sounds silly to me, don't know why.)

alright, we had to make a collage and, thing is, i'm terrible at collages. i always have been. my little third grade self always had the most pathetic collages in the class. and i'm sure that'll transfer over. 

i made a horribe mess in my room and was in such a rush to finish up that it looks...blotchy. 

point is, i'm not happy with it, but it's something i've worked on this week and i've been neglecting the blog. :(

my semester classes have officially started. (insert enormously obnoxious sigh here)

as always, there was a bit of a mix up and i had to walk from one side of campus to the other all while struggling with my whale-weighted excuse of a backpack. oh, and did i mention there's a never ending heat-wave where i live?  :)

haha, it wasn't all bad. there's a new art building in the making and i'll be one of the many students to help design a mosaic floor. oh, and my art instructor informed me one of my pieces made it into the upcoming art show! hopefully, i'll be able to take a photo of it for the blog. it's a real simple piece...black and white (eraser pull-out). 

tomorrow, i will tackle my composition and design II classes. although, my instructor is offering me a spot in his drawing II class. i may switch, but we'll see.

i'm so geeky in the sense that i get excited for new semester classes. 

initially, i had no chance of getting the algebra class i wanted. BUT thanks to the students who forgot to pay for their classes before the deadline, i've got a spot in the class! 

downsides of this upcoming semester include:

1. a huge, intimidating dent in my college fund.
2. scheduling that is just about impossible.
3. leaves me less time to update the blog.

it's rather nerve-racking, but exciting nonetheless.  i will be taking on five classes. dun dun dun!

i got inspired by an artist on deviantart and her piece based off the movie 'never let me go'. so, i decided to draw my very own tommy. 

oh, and i absolutely loved the movie.

so, there was a small issue with my new sketchbook. turns out the inside covers were smudging black onto the first and last pages. 

it isn't a big deal, but i decided to fix it; and by doing so, i managed to somewhat customize my sketchbook.  :)

i have these patterned cardstock papers lying around and i finally put them to good use! the back cover has a similar orange pattern glued to it as well. and no more smudge!

anyways, i had a lot of fun with the first page of my sketchbook. i got to try out my new brush pen and i absolutely love it.

• a stylo pen
• woodless graphite pencils

yay! i also bought a photo frame in which i have placed my captain america piece to give to my four year old nephew (who is a superhero fanatic). he saw the piece yesterday and was so excited about it that i just have to give it to him.

i was using a straw to create the watercolor effect and i managed to learn a lesson: never, ever, blow paint in front of your computer. unless you want a very colorful monitor, that is.  :)

oh, and i'm feeling much better. still a bit dizzy, but other than that i'm back to normal.

so, yesterday evening i woke up to a spinning room. even now as i type this there is a slight spin still. 

i woke up terribly dizzy and completely nauseated and have no clue why. i've been laying in bed like a log watching the strangest of documentaries and movies. really, i have. 

let me list them for whoever is reading:

• from ape to man (history channel documentary)
• the human experience (another documentary)
• princess kaiulani 
• jane eyre (the 1996 version)
• wuthering heights (apparently, i couldn't have one bronte sister without the other)
• fever pitch (with colin firth...because i'm a sucker for him)

i was almost going to watch national geographic's 'border wars', but decided against it. though, i did watch national geographic's 'the science of dogs'. i feel as if i'm back in school and just having a sick day. 

anyways, seeing as how my brain is twirling inside my skull i've decided not to draw today. or maybe if i'm feeling better later, i will. 

i came across some of my old work on flickr (which i had forgotten all about). i will be posting a couple in place of today's work.

i would have posted this sooner, but i got sucked into playing halo with my sister. aw, man, i had a blast. i laughed so much that now i have the biggest headache.
anyways, i've been wanting to see the new captain america movie for some time now. (i've been hearing great things about it.) so, i decided to paint the patriotic superhero.
first i painted with acrylics, but after that failed i tried again with watercolors. i like the way it came out. :]

so, when i was younger all my drawings consisted of just portraits. i would use reference photos of celebrities or people of interest and just draw them. i've been trying to stray away from that and get more of a unique style.
but it's been so long since i last drew a portrait and i wanted to see if i could still do it. i can't.

anyways, i tried drawing mila kunis (mainly because i just finished watching the entirety of 'that 70s show). it turned out looking nothing like her, but i still enjoyed working on it. kind of nostalgic, i guess.

this piece was kicking my butt all day. it started off as a black and white sketch. then, when i began playing around with it, it changed form completely. then sprouted color. then she and i began debating her plain jane coloring. and she won and became purple royalty.

well, it worked out in the end. i've always been extremely fascinated with people with purple hair. there's always got to be a story there.
i would dye mine purple, but i haven't got a story behind it. and dying it without a story puts purple haired people everywhere to shame. maybe someday. :)

san antonio was fun. i had no idea the zoo was as big as it is. we walked through it all day and still only got to see about 3/4 of the whole thing. i was able to sketch a few things. here's a page from the day:

sketching animals at the zoo was another assignment from carla sonheim's 'drawing lab'. i'm having a lot of fun with this book. there's nothing stressing about it and i'm less critical of my results. :)

an assignment i had done before this was some blind contour giraffes! now, if you don't know what blind contour is...its real simple. its just drawing with a continuos line without looking at your paper.
